I love Adobe Illustrator. We have a deeply complicated relationship. Nothing has made me want to throw my computer out the window as much as it has, but somehow, it's the program that keeps me sane. <3

Behind the scenes of me styling the outfit change from the 1st look to the 2nd! For the most part, I know exactly what I want the outfit to be based off what I'm going to shoot. Other times, the outfit will be half styled or I end up not liking it as much & that always leaves me with a much bigger mess in my studio than I'd like. 🫠 

I'm sure the models love changing multiple times & listening to me say "yes!" & then "no!" 3 seconds later, as well as watching me dig through hoards of accessories, like a chicken without its head lol! 

Art is a collaborative effort & I love when the models style the outfits with their own accessories (rings, belts, makeup & hair) or I send them what I want to shoot & tell them to wear whatever they think would go with that piece. Luckily, I think they make everything look good & that makes it easier for me!

I wanted this shoot to be super fun & festive. The inspiration was from a childhood dream of mine...what girl doesn't want a magic wand that changes her outfit in a snap & puts art on her walls?! She's better than Santa! 

With the first outfit (purple fur coat, Pucci scarf as a tube top, grey denim skirt with pleather crosses, gold faux snake boots, pearl body chain, blonde wig), I wanted to show how the Fairy Gothmother feels before she spices up the place. 

She's cute. She knows it too, but as a Fairy Gothmother she needs to look the part and that means matching the vibe of the place she's fixing. 

And so the story goes...After stumbling upon a mantle that needs some festive wall art, she waves her magic art wand & poof! Colorful wall art appears.

Happy with her work, she realizes she needs to change her fit to match the new scenery & with a wave of her magic art wand she changes into look #2 (red faux fur coat, white faux fur tube top, metallic red pleather mini skirt, furry red pointy toed boots, gold star body chain & star necklace, sparkly long Santa hat, green wig) a dazzling new fit, perfect for the scene! 

But wait...she forgot the most important part...the colorful filament stars! She reaches for her magic art wand & summons all the stars from her gold star body chain. Poof! 🧚‍♀️

"what's over is over & nothing between"

It all starts with a mood...usually a muse...a vibe...the energy! What inspires me at the moment? Who inspires me at the moment? How happy am I? How depressed do I feel? Well, that changes day to day! 

It starts with a doodle. I guarantee you it won't be clean or pretty. Just a quick sketch in pen or blocking out the shape in Copic marker first, then doing line work. I seldom use pencil. I love drawing in small spiral notebooks & sketchbooks. It all just depends on the moment. 

Some drawings I'll sit & retrace over & over just for fun, changing things until I have the whole thing down. 

I always scan the drawing to my computer, put it into Adobe Illustrator & use my drawing tablet to trace my work, make clean vector lines, color, shade & add detail in the end! 

It's a process & I wouldn't do it any other way. I love hoarding art supplies & I love drawing on the computer. It's the best of both worlds!
